Drive to Milford
This was first time I spotted snow driving from Invercargill to Milford. This is about 2 hours away from Invercargill
Te Anau
Stunning little town on the way to Milford.Definitely going to go back in winter when there is real snow
made it to milford sound...
Made it to Milford Sound... there wasn't anywhere to stay... last boatride had left 2 hours before I got there... it was raining and couldnt see anything... definitely a worthwhile 6 hour drive .....This photo is of outside Te Anau 2 hours later headed back to where I had just come from !
Slope point
This looks like a yellow variety of tussocks... I drove through 3 red tussock scientific reserves..... they must be important so took a photo ....Surfs up guys ...
Slope point - guess what .... yip hit another storm !I was very very very high up and this wave crashed in up to my level !
south pole
The South Pole was NOT that far away !It was ffffffffffffffffreezing... and I dont get cold easily.
That white lump in the background is a polar bear !!!

I must have looked really funny sitting on the ground in all the pine needles.. with my camera lens aimed through the electric fence.. watching to make sure bull didnt come and maul me...

Mount Ruapeho
We had two polar blasts that had come through a few weeks earlier... hence the snow on North island. When we first travelled from Wellington to Tauranga in September there wasnt snow on this mountain......
Wellington Harbour
How is this for a scene as we climbed off the ferry in Wellington harbour. Dont believe what they say about Wellington - its a gorgeous place and super people live there.... Kelvin and Yolande and my 3 kids (ok ok his kids .... i just love them so much they could be mine).
Devils new torture tool...
Also known as ferry. Only kidding. Second trip wasnt bad at all.... we were unlucky with Southern wind on first trip. Norwester winds we love you.
Ferry trips are very cold and windy
Bryan and his mom being blown away at the front of the ferry on the trip back to wellington... I was huddled in a corner waiting for a repeat performance of the first trip. Wind was in our favour this time and we didnt have 9 metre swells forcing ferry to seek shelter and turning 3 hour trip into 10 hours of hell resulting in place looking like a warzone ... I am so glad we werent on that trip - we missed that by about a week.
Picton Harbour
Picton and Marlborough Sounds (South Island) must be one of the top 10 most gorgeous places in the world.

Oyster Bay Transport System
Might have been easier using these to get to Picton rather than the mountain road - took us 45 minutes to get to Picton.... and Picton is 14 km away. It was slow driving... but thats ok because there was plenty of vistas to take in

Hanmer Springs
Thermal pools in Hamner Springs. About an hour or two inland from Kaikoura Coast. Pool was 39 deg C and water is from underground lake. Absolutely amazing place - spectacular scenery and super-friendly people.
Kaikoura Coast
Kaikoura Coast where the Southern Alps meet the sea ! We had a picnic on the beach - despite the deceiving image of cold it was quite warm.... beach was all rocks and they were burning us. Absolutely amazing scenery

Biggest damn daffodil I ever did see..
Christchurch Botanical Gardens. Dont know what fertiliser they use but I think I could do with some ;-)

Christchurch looks so much like Cambridge and Oxford its actually quite scary.

Road from Greymouth to Christchurch
Yip - thats snow..... in November....
And Bryan says despite the snow (I say because of the snow) we could definitely live here.
And this was the best part of the ferry ride...
landing on the other side !! Got to enjoy supper from the night before 5 times before we arrived in Picton !! Ferries suck
Road from Blenheim to St Arnaud
How could anyone not want to live here. It was so peaceful. Only thing you could hear were the birds.... NZ has a lot of birds - you dont need an alarm here as the birds wake you up at the crack of dawn singing away for the supper... or rather breakfast

Perfect for building..... sandcastles..... um no.... maybe houses ?? Beach was covered in logs. Wild like Transkei coast.... and just as stunning....

Bath house in Rotorua
How can such a smelly place have such gorgeous scenery. Sulphur smells can be quite overpowering. Go to Rotorua on a day when you have allergies or a cold.

Mount Taranki / Egmont
Mount Taranki (aka Mt Egmont) in New Plymouth... absolutely stunning. Weather wasnt even cold even when we were a couple of hundred metres from the snow line.It is a volcano thats about 50 years overdue for an eruption - luckily for us it didnt decide to play catch up this weekend
Koru
The koru is a scroll shape and is linked to the New Zealand fern plant. The shoot of the fern has a curled-over tip which unfurls and becomes a fernleaf. The koru, represents the unfolding of new life and renewal. The spiral shape is a dominant part of Maori carvings and tattoos.
